What's the deal with terriers?

I like dogs. But why must some of them make so much
noise? Take terriers, for instance. Who do they think
they are fooling? Do they actually think that a
convulsive fit of yelping is going to intimidate
anybody? They fail to realize that the pitch of their
bark is so high that the noise couldn't possibly come
from anything heavier than ten pounds, or taller than
twelve inches. So they are dumb. Worse, they get
stirred up from the slightest sound or disruption in
the environment around them and let loose for five,
ten, or more minutes of relentless auditory
punishment to any living thing within earshot of
their racket. So what is the problem with
these...things? Quite simply, mental illness.
